Good Government
As your City Council member I will continue the work of making City Hall transparent by making its business available online through the web, PDF, podcast, and YouTube like videos. I will openCity Hall by creating NYC.OpenLegislation.org, a local version of OpenCongress.org, where anyone will be able to share their views on all business, in support of the mission of theParticipatory Politics Foundation. City Hall will become accountable to you the people as NYC.OpenLegislation.org, will let you track business before City Hall and how your representative voted on issues of importance to you.
Statement from Ben Kallos on Opponent's Abuse of Assembly Campaign Account
The heavy spending from his Albany campaign committee is yet another example of Albany machine politics from Micah Kellner, who has used more from his state campaign coffers than any other Assembly candidate for a City Council race capped at $168,000. The Campaign Finance Act deems all spending out of any political committees spending for the 2013 election, and the New York City Campaign Finance Board must not favor Albany politicians by allowing them to continue spending out of Assembly campaign committees without counting it towards City Council spending limits. This practice abuses our city's public matching campaign finance system, meant to curb corruption, by allowing ethically-challenged Albany politicians to illegally spend above the limit -- and leaves communities stuck with disappointing elected officials. Voters have reached out to our campaign to tell us that they’re ready for a new kind of leader, and I am looking forward to working on their behalf.
