Upper East Side City Council candidate Benjamin Kallos has landed a union endorsement ... Mr. Kallos told the Insider he is getting the backing of the Boilermakers Local Lodge No. 5, whose recording secretary Thomas Ryan said in a letter (below) that it was backing Mr. Kallos because he opposes closing the Indian Point nuclear power plant. “While advocating for investment in the grid and future plant construction, he is willing to make the politically difficult decision to keep the plant open,” Mr. Ryan wrote. Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to close the plant over safety concerns. Mr. Kallos is running to replace Councilwoman Jessica Lappin, who is campaigning to be Manhattan borough president.
