Council Candidate Kallos Collects Enough Signatures to Run for Mayor

3,750 Signatures Collected in Upper East Side Council Race

New York, N.Y. – Today City Council Candidate Ben Kallos announced 3,750 signatures to get on the ballot outside the New York City Board of Elections Office before filing petitions. The 3,750 signatures – enough to run for mayor and more than eight times the 450 signatures required by the City –showcase the campaign’s strong grassroots all-volunteer effort.

“This number represents the hard work and tireless enthusiasm of my all-volunteer team of petitioners,” said Kallos. “They worked early mornings and late evenings, in the heat and rain, because they care about bringing transparent, effective government to the Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island.”

More than 50 volunteers assisted in the petitioning process, which started on June 4 and ends on July 11. With 3,750 signatures, Kallos has more than enough to assure a place on the ballot and to protect against potential challenges.

“The amount of signatures we’ve been able to gather demonstrates the strength of our organizing efforts,” said Kallos Campaign Field Director Paul Westrick. “With endorsements from key unions like the Transport Workers Union local 100 and elected officials like Mark Green, we’re in a great position from now until Election Day.”

Kallos has been the Executive Director of a leading good government group, entrepreneur, attorney, and the former Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Jonathan Bing.  Learn more about his run for City Council District 5 at http://KallosForCouncil.com.
