Council Candidate Spreads Fracking Awareness
New York, New York - City Council candidate Ben Kallos held an Upper East Side screening of Gasland II to spread awareness against fracking. Dozens attended the showing, which also featured a presentation by Té Revesz from Citizen Action New York, a grassroots social justice organization fighting for voter-owned/voter-financed elections.
"Everyone has the right to clean air, water and a safe environment. We need to stand together as a city and tell Albany to stop selling our health. It won't be worth it," said Kallos. "The strong participation and great turnout just emphacizes the passion New Yorkers have about enivornmental justice."
Kallos has since launched a MoveOn.org petition to spread the word against fracking in New York state.
Gasland II is the follow up to Josh Fox's Oscar-nominated film Gasland, which premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. The film exposes both the dangers of natural gas and the moneyed interests behind it.
Kallos has advoacted for environmental reform, including a move to 75 percent recycling to match other major cities. He has also been an outstanding opponent against letting special interests dictate policy.
Kallos has been the Executive Director of a leading good government group, entrepreneur, attorney, and the former Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Jonathan Bing. Learn more about his run for City Council District 5 at http://KallosForCouncil.com
