Craigslist Founder Endorses Council Candiate Kallos for District 5

New York, New York — Today Craigslist founder Craig Newmark endorsed City Council Candidate Ben Kallos in Manhattan’s District 5, citing his record of action to promote open government and transparency.

Newmark fittingly
unveiled the endorsement on twitter, writing: “Ben Kallos doesn’t just talk Open Gov: he put NY’s voting records online,” and encouraging followers to join him in support.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of a visionary and entrepreneur like Craig Newmark,” said Kallos. “Using our best tech tools to fight corruption and advance innovation is core to my platform, which is why I’m so thrilled to have the support of leaders in the tech community like Craig.”

Ben Kallos also received the endorsement of dean of the free software movement Richard Stallman earlier this year, who cited Kallos’ record of increasing public control over government.

Craig Newmark founded craigslist in 1995, and it has since become one of the top-10 most visited sites in the world. In March 2011, he launched craigconnects, an initiative to use social media to witness and encourage good efforts. Kallos has been active in the tech community, advocating the use of technology to reform government and put increased information into voters' hands.

Kallos has been the Executive Director of a leading good government group, entrepreneur, attorney, and the former Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Jonathan Bing.  Learn more about his run for City Council District 5 at http://KallosForCouncil.com.
