Senator Charles E. Schumer Endorses Ben Kallos for CD5

New York, N.Y. – U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer endorsed Ben Kallos for City Council in CD5 today, citing his commitment to good government and thoughtful ideas to move the Upper East Side forward. Senator Schumer joins prominent Democratic officials Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, State Senator Liz Krueger, Councilwoman Jessica Lappin, Assembly Member Dan Quart, State Senator Jose Serrano, Democratic Nominee for Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and many other trailblazing progressives in strongly supporting Ben Kallos for the seat.

Kallos interned in Senator Schumer's office during law school, which he cites as an inspiring introduction to public life.

“I’m proud to endorse Ben’s candidacy and look forward to working with him on important issues such as improving schools and keeping housing affordable to benefit New Yorkers,” said Schumer. "A progressive and reformer, he is the type of leader we will be lucky to have in City Hall. I am proud to have worked with him and to see him go on to do excellent things."

Over the past three decades in public service, U.S. Senator Charles “Chuck” Ellis Schumer has built a reputation as a leader in finding common-sense solutions to national issues and as a tireless fighter for New York.

“It’s an honor to receive the endorsement of Senator Schumer, who has been an inspiration to me, as he has been to many who enter public life. He has an unparalleled record of working tirelessly on behalf of our city and state. Among a long slate of impressive policies, Senator Schumer proposed a 'nerd-boat' to connect Roosevelt Island other city tech hubs, a proposal I am excited to help implement. I'm thrilled to have his confidence and backing," said Kallos.

Kallos, the Democratic nominee in Manhattan's 5th District, served as Chief of Staff to Assembly Member Jonathan Bing, policy director for former Public Advocate Mark Green and executive director to the good government reform group New Roosevelt.   Learn more about his run for City Council at BenKallos.com. ###
