The United Federation of Teachers Endorses Ben Kallos for City Council

New York, N.Y. – The United Federation of Teachers (UFT) endorsed Democrat Ben Kallos for City Council in Manhattan’s District Five today, citing his commitment to providing a world-class education to all students.

"We are proud to endorse Ben Kallos, a product of our New York City public schools, and look forward to working with him on innovative solutions that put students first,” said UFT President Michael Mulgrew.

Kallos, a graduate of public schools, has made improving the city's education system a top priority – including opening up seats in schools and expanding after-school programs to close the achievement gap.

"At Bronx High School of Science, my teachers inspired a love of learning and an ethic of giving back to the community in me and my peers," said Kallos, who is seeking to represent Manhattan's Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island.

"Teachers across New York City do this every day, and I’m proud to accept the endorsement of the UFT. In the City Council, I will work to ensure every student gets the same amazing education as I did at Bronx Science,” Kallos said.

Kallos, the Democratic nominee in Manhattan's 5th District, served as Chief of Staff to Assembly Member Jonathan Bing, policy director for former Public Advocate Mark Green and executive director to the good government reform group New Roosevelt.
